The moment
Your video has the Catrina reveal
The Catrina reveal is the slow rise: the camera starts on heels stepping through marigold petals and the hem of a gown embroidered with cempasúchil, tilts up past the lace and the flowers, and lands on your face — painted as La Catrina, with dark eye sockets, a stitched smile and a crown of marigolds — as your eyes open in the candlelight.
Your Catrina AI video keeps that reveal and ends on the full look, turning among the candles as petals fall. Pick the classic black-and-marigold gown, red roses, violet, golden marigold, or the Catrín's top hat and tailcoat.
- The reveal: from the gown and the marigold petals up to your face
- Five looks: classic, red roses, violet, golden marigold and Catrín
- Your own face under the sugar-skull makeup

Background
La Catrina, from Posada to TikTok
La Catrina started as a joke: around 1910–1913, the Mexican printmaker José Guadalupe Posada drew La Calavera Garbancera, a skeleton in a fancy European hat mocking people who denied their roots. In 1947 Diego Rivera painted her at the center of his mural Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central and called her La Catrina, and she became the face of Día de Muertos.
The Catrina AI trend took that face to TikTok in September 2026. CapCut templates turned one photo into a Catrina in a marigold gown, and the clips spread through October as people tried their look before painting it for November 1 and 2.

How do I make a Catrina AI video?

Is there a Day of the Dead AI filter for my photo?
+
Yes. The Catrina AI generator works as a Day of the Dead AI filter that goes further than a photo filter: from one photo it makes a short video of you as La Catrina, online and in your browser, with no app to install.
Is this the “filtro de Catrina” from TikTok?
+
Yes. The Catrina AI video is what Spanish-speaking TikTok calls the “filtro de Catrina” or “maquillaje de Catrina con IA”: the AI paints the Catrina makeup on your face and dresses you in the gown. The page is in English, but the look is the same.
Can I try a Catrina makeup look before I paint it?

Yes. Many people use the Catrina AI video to preview a Catrina makeup look before Día de Muertos: see the sugar-skull design and colours on your own face first, then copy the one you like with real face paint.
Who is La Catrina?
+
La Catrina is the elegant skeleton lady of Mexico's Día de Muertos. She began as La Calavera Garbancera, an etching by José Guadalupe Posada from around 1910–1913, and got her name from Diego Rivera, who painted her in his 1947 mural Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central.
Which Catrina looks can I choose?

Will it still look like me under the face paint?

Is there a CapCut template for the Catrina trend? Can I do it without CapCut?

What AI is used for Catrina videos?

Can I use a photo of a celebrity?
+
The Catrina look is yours to wear: you, your partner or a friend who agreed, painted as La Catrina or El Catrín. Photos of real celebrities and public figures aren't accepted.
Is the Catrina AI video free?
+
Some apps offer the Catrina AI video as a free trial with a watermark. On MakeMeme each video costs 20 credits at 720p or 30 at 1080p, paid from a credit pack, with no watermark, and failed videos are refunded automatically. Most videos are ready in a few minutes, and we email you when yours is done.
Can I make a Día de Muertos video of my pet too?
+
Yes. For your pet, the Day of the Dead Pets video shows it welcomed at the marigold gate of the Land of the Dead, with its photo on an ofrenda — made for October 27.
What resolution is the Catrina AI video, and how many credits does it cost?
+
For the Catrina AI video you pick the resolution before you generate: 20 credits at 720p or 30 at 1080p. Every resolution gives the same 10-second vertical 9:16 video; higher resolutions are sharper. Failed videos are refunded automatically.
Only upload photos of yourself or of people who have agreed to be in your video. Photos of public figures are rejected. MakeMeme isn't affiliated with CapCut or the template's creators.
